Giovanni Vian is a Full Professor of History of Christianity and Churches at the Department of Humanities, Ca' Foscari University of Venice. His research focuses on the history of Christianity from the 19th century to the present, including the modernist crisis, papal history, and inter-religious dynamics. He teaches courses on Christian history across undergraduate and graduate programs, emphasizing medieval to contemporary periods. He actively participates in editorial boards for journals like JoMaCC and Studia Patavina, and has led major research projects funded by the DFG and MUR-PRIN. His institutional roles include Director of the Department of Humanities (2020-2023) and co-founder of the Interdepartmental Center for Historical Studies on Christianity (CISC).
