Giovanni B. Pedrazzini is a Full Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI). He is also the Head of Cardiology at the Cardiocentro Ticino, where he previously led the Interventional Cardiology Service from 1999 to 2017. He obtained his MD from the University of Lausanne (1985), followed by specialization in Internal Medicine (1991) and Cardiology (1996), with further training in interventional cardiology under Professors Bernard Maier and Thomas Lüscher. His clinical and research focus includes pioneering percutaneous valvular therapies, acute coronary syndromes, and antiplatelet treatments. He has organized international congresses on high-risk interventions and leads Switzerland’s Mitraclip registry (over 1,500 patients) and the AMIS plus acute myocardial infarction registry.

His research emphasizes innovative interventional cardiology techniques, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement and percutaneous mitral valve repair. Beyond academia, he coordinates humanitarian projects in Guinea-Bissau (treating rheumatic heart disease) and Calcutta (supporting disabled girls). He advocates strongly for teamwork in healthcare and academic leadership, believing it is essential for achieving breakthrough results.
He is a former President of the Swiss Society of Cardiology (2019–2020) and leads educational modules in Circulation, Acute Coronary Syndromes, and Heart Failure within USI’s Biomedicine programs.
Personal interests include writing, with three published books, and family life with his wife Marialuisa and four children.
