Gina M. Doepker

Gina M. Doepker is an Associate Professor of Literacy Education in the Department of Education at the University of Texas at Tyler. She holds a Ph.D. in Literacy Education from The Ohio State University, an M.A. in Reading Education, and a B.S. in Elementary Education from The University of Dayton.

Her research focuses on innovative literacy practices, including the use of alternative genres like TOON Comic Books to enhance children's literacy attitudes, confidence, and skills. She also specializes in dyslexia screening methodologies and teacher training programs. Dr. Doepker teaches courses such as Language and Literacy Acquisition, Children's Literature, and Literacy Assessment Practicum.

Her professional interests emphasize service learning and integrating new literacies into classroom instruction. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical classroom applications, particularly in culturally responsive literacy education.
