Gilson Eric is a Professor of Cell Biology at the Faculty of Medicine Nice, Department of Medical Genetics, and a Director of the Institut for Research on Cancer and Aging (IRCAN) in Nice. He leads the “Telomere, Senescence and Cancer” research team at IRCAN. His primary affiliations include the University of Nice, CNRS, INSERM, and CHU of Nice.
Education: Earned a PhD in Cell Biology from the École Normale Supérieure, Paris (1978–1983).
Research focuses on DNA-protein interactions, chromatin structure, telomere biology, epigenetics, cancer mechanisms, and aging. He has organized major international conferences, including CSH meetings on Telomeres & Telomerase and the European Human Genetics Conference. His work addresses DNA damage response, repetitive DNA sequences, and their roles in disease.
Awards include membership in Academia Europaea (2014), EUROCANCER Prize (2010), and EMBO membership (2003). He has been a key figure in scientific committees, including the Fondation ARC and Fondation de la Recherche Médicale.
