Gilly Leshed

Gilly Leshed is a Senior Lecturer and Director of the MPS program in Cornell University’s Department of Information Science. She holds a PhD from Cornell (2009) and degrees from Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, specializing in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). Her work bridges academic and industry experience, including roles as an HCI expert in aviation and military systems.

• Research Focus: HCI, CSCW, social computing, and ethical technology design
• Teaching: Courses on HCI design, qualitative research methods, and online communities

Her research explores technology’s role in social interactions, including mindfulness tech, inclusive videoconferencing, and combating xenophobia through social media analysis. Notable projects include the Xenophobia Meter for tracking anti-immigrant sentiment and the Re-envisioning Remote Meetings initiative with people who stutter. Awards include Best Paper recognitions at CHI and ACM conferences.
