Gillian Harvey

Gillian Harvey serves as Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Art & Design at the University of Alberta, Canada, collaborating with education, healthcare, government, and non-profit sectors to solve complex communication challenges through design.

She holds a Master of Arts in Information Design from the University of Reading, United Kingdom (2004).

Her research centers on human-centered information structuring, with key emphases on:

• Wayfinding and signage systems for urban environments
• Design for decision-making in emergency medical contexts
• Social marketing campaign development
• Data visualization for complex information translation

Harvey actively contributes as President of the Edmonton Wayfinding Society and IIID World Region Representative for Canada, with her work recognized through approximately twelve regional, national, and international awards.
