Gilberto Cárdenas

Gilberto Cárdenas is Julian Samora Professor of Sociology at Notre Dame, founding Director of the Institute for Latino Studies (1999-2012) and former Assistant Provost. His scholarship examines intersections of immigration, art, and transnational identity.

Research encompasses four decades of work on Mexican immigration, border studies, and Latino cultural production. Authored foundational texts including 'Los Mojados: The Wetback Story' and edited collections on civil rights movements.
