Gideon Koppel

Gideon Koppel is a Professor of Media at the Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University. His research explores the intersection of documentary forms and aesthetic practices, focusing on evolving configurations of landscape and community.

His notable projects include North of the Future (2020), a 25-screen film installation examining Paul Celan's life and poetry, funded by the European Commission's MEDIA programme and supported by the Paul Celan Estate. Earlier works like sleep furiously (2016) and For Elan (2016) investigate rural landscapes, tradition-modernity tensions, and artistic interventions in public spaces.

Koppel's practice-driven research interrogates how art can reveal hidden fragilities in landscapes, blending film installation, sculpture, and public events. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Jewish Museum in Berlin.
