Giampiero Spalluto

Giampiero Spalluto is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Trieste. He serves as a member of the Department's Board, Boards of Studies, and multiple Doctoral Studies Boards for Chemistry PhD programs (Cycles XXIX through XXXIX).

His research focuses on Drug Design, Synthesis and Formulation, with two primary research strands: the design and synthesis of protein-kinase inhibitors and adenosine receptor antagonists. Professor Spalluto's work has significant therapeutic implications, particularly in neurological disorders.

His laboratory employs computational techniques alongside synthetic chemistry approaches, leveraging crystallographic structure data to design novel compounds. Current research includes targeting protein kinase CK1delta for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) treatment and developing selective adenosine receptor antagonists for Parkinson's disease and other conditions.

Professor Spalluto actively collaborates with industry, including Aptuit Srl (an Evotec Company), on pharmaceutical research projects. His work spans both fundamental pharmacological investigations and applied drug development.
