Gertrude Thompson is an Associate Professor at CIBIO-InBIO, University of Porto, focusing on microbes and their interactions with hosts, environments, and implications for health, biodiversity and conservation.
Research examines infectious agents affecting domestic animals, wildlife and public health, with emphasis on pathogen pathogenesis, epidemiology, antimicrobial susceptibility, and diagnostic tools. Studies viral evolution and transmission at wildlife-domestic animal interfaces.
Supervises graduate students investigating viral characterization in wild carnivores, genetic analysis of pathogens, and diagnostic method development. Collaborates with local and international research partners.
