Gert Vanthournout is a researcher and coordinator of the Research Centre for Lifelong Learning and Development (OLLI) at AP University College. He holds a PhD in Educational Sciences from the University of Antwerp (2011) and a Master's degree in Educational Sciences from KU Leuven (2000). With over 20 years in higher education, his expertise spans study motivation, self-directed learning, soft skills development, and data visualization. He previously worked at the University of Antwerp and Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). As OLLI coordinator since 2022, his focus is on group growth, securing funding, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to establish OLLI as a recognized lifelong learning hub.
His research interests include learning strategies in higher education, data literacy, learning analytics, and AI-driven educational tools. He emphasizes quantitative methods and R-based statistical analysis. Key projects include LAP! (Learning Analytics dashboard), TPG (Admission Test for Graduate Programs), and Kyss (soft skills development).
He has led over 15 research initiatives, including dual learning frameworks (DuLeGo!), workplace learning in teacher training (Work@OT), and STEM integration in primary schools (Co-pros in STEM). His work bridges theory and practice, aiming to enhance educational outcomes through innovation and evidence-based solutions.
