Gerry Simpson is Professor of Public International Law at London School of Economics and Political Science and Fellow of the British Academy. Previously held the Sir Kenneth Bailey Chair at University of Melbourne and Soros-funded International Scholarship at State University of Tbilisi. Education includes law degrees from University of Aberdeen, University of British Columbia, and University of Michigan (PhD). Taught at multiple global institutions including ANU, Harvard, and NYU.
Research examines the intersection of international law with historical conflicts and literary analysis, focusing on war crimes jurisprudence, Cold War legal frameworks, and emotional dimensions of global governance. Current ARC-funded project explores Cold War's impact on international legal structures.
Awards include the 2005 American Society of International Law prize for paradigm-shifting scholarship in global legal theory. Serves as Joint Editor-in-Chief of The London Review of International Law and contributes analytical essays to Arena Magazine.
