Dr. Gerianne Merrigan is a Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at San Francisco State University, part of the College of Liberal and Creative Arts. She has been at SF State since 1992 and previously served as Department Chair from 2002-2011. She holds a PhD in Speech Communication from the University of Washington, an MS from the University of North Texas, and undergraduate degrees in Broadcasting and Elementary Education.
Teaching & Research: Geri teaches courses in Organizational Communication, Communication & Aging, Communication & Empowerment in Organizations, and Quantitative Research Methods. Her co-authored textbook Communication Research Methods (4th ed., 2019, Oxford University Press) is widely used. She has also taught Conflict Resolution and Communication Techniques for Educational Leadership.
Professional Contributions: Served as COMM 150 Course Coordinator (2020-2023). Active in curriculum development and advising, with drop-in advising during fall semesters. Office located in HUM 252.
Extracurricular: Enjoys hiking in the San Francisco Peninsula and learning to play the clarinet.
