Geri Gay

Dr. Geri Gay is the Kenneth J. Bissett Professor of Communication and Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow at Cornell University, holding a joint appointment in Information Science. As director of the Interaction Design Lab, her work focuses on the intersection of social and technical systems in interactive communication technologies. Her research explores areas like social navigation, affective computing, mobile health, and design theory, with funding from NSF, Google, NIH, USDA, and private donations.

Her academic contributions span over 50 peer-reviewed articles (selected highlights shown), addressing topics from mHealth interventions for chronic pain to the psychological impacts of social media non-use. Awards include Cornell’s Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellowship and named professorship recognition.

Current projects emphasize technology’s role in mental health self-management, leveraging mobile computing and tangible interfaces to improve patient outcomes. She collaborates across disciplines, bridging computer science, psychology, and healthcare to create human-centered solutions.
