Gerhard Pfister

Professor Gerhard Pfister holds the position of Professor of Economics (VWL), specializing in Macroeconomics at the University of Economics and the Environment Nürtingen-Geislingen (HfWU). Since 2012, he has contributed to teaching in Economics and International Management programs. He previously served as Senior Academic Councillor (since 2004) and Head of the Internship Office for the Economics program since 2006. Additionally, he is a member of the Faculty Council and Deputy Equal Opportunities Officer (since 2014). In 2016/17, he conducted research at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia.

His academic journey began with a degree in Economics from the Universities of Freiburg and Göttingen (1981–1986), followed by a Ph.D. (Dr.rer.pol.) in Forest and Environmental Economics from Göttingen (1988–1991). He later worked at the University of Mannheim (1991–1993) on SME policy consulting and at the Baden-Württemberg Academy for Technology Assessment (1993–2004), focusing on environmental economics, sustainability, and risk.

Research interests span environmental economics, sustainable development, macroeconomic policy, and interdisciplinary risk analysis. His prior work includes policy advising for SMEs and leading projects on sustainable management. He maintains ties with institutions like the Institute for International Research on Sustainable Management and Renewable Energy (ISR) at HfWU.

Teaching responsibilities include core economics modules, while administrative roles involve internship coordination and promoting equal opportunities.
