Gerda Wielander is a Professor of Chinese Studies at the University of Westminster's School of Humanities, serving as Director of the Contemporary China Centre and REF Lead for Modern Languages and Linguistics. She previously held leadership roles including Associate Head of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (2018-2024) and Head of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures (2013-2018). Her research explores the intersection of personal/spiritual life with China's sociopolitical context, focusing on religious thought, happiness discourse, and public visual culture. She co-leads a project on Chinese soft power in Uzbekistan and advocates open-access publishing as editor of the cultural china series and British Journal of Chinese Studies.
