Dr. Gerardo Moreno is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine, holding the Kaiser Permanente Endowed Chair in Community Medicine. He leads the PRIME-LA program, focusing on leadership and advocacy in underserved communities, and co-leads the HRSA-funded UCLA Center of Excellence. His research emphasizes healthcare delivery in marginalized populations, diabetes in aging adults, and health equity. Dr. Moreno completed an MD at UCLA (2004), an MS in Health Services Research at UCLA (2009), and residencies/internships at UCSF.
He has been awarded the National Academy of Medicine (2023), Sherman Mellinkoff Faculty Award (2024), and Paul B. Beeson Career Development Award (2012-2017). His work includes evaluating community health programs, reducing healthcare disparities, and enhancing medical education. Notable projects include a multi-year evaluation of primary care coverage for low-income patients and studies on pharmacist-led diabetes interventions.
Dr. Moreno's research spans diabetes prevention, language-based healthcare access, and social determinants of health.
