Dr. Gerardo G. Mackenzie is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Nutrition at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), where he holds the Corinne L. Rustici Endowed Chair in Human Nutrition. His research focuses on the intersection of diet, lifestyle, and cancer, with emphasis on obesity, inflammation, and novel dietary interventions such as the ketogenic diet for pancreatic cancer treatment. He also investigates nutraceuticals as chemopreventive agents.
Dr. Mackenzie earned his Ph.D. and B.S. in Cell Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He leads the Nutritional Biology Graduate Admissions Pathways (NUTGAP) program, fostering student research collaborations between UC Davis and historically Black colleges.
His work spans molecular mechanisms of cancer development, drug delivery systems (e.g., nanoparticles), and signaling pathways like STAT3 and ERK1/2. Over 15 recent publications highlight his contributions to anticancer drug development, dietary risk analysis, and redox biology. His lab is located in Meyer Hall, UC Davis.
