About
Prof. Dr. Gerard Meijer is a distinguished academic serving as Professor and Director of the Department of Molecular Physics at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society. Previously, he held a professorship at UniCat (Collaborative Research Center) and became President of the Executive Board of Radboud University Nijmegen in 2012. His research focuses on infrared (IR) spectroscopy of metal and metal oxide clusters, IR photodissociation spectroscopy, and molecular physics. Key projects include manipulating molecules with electromagnetic fields, studying cold molecules, and investigating clusters using IR-free electron laser (FEL) radiation.
Research interests span the structural and dynamic properties of molecular systems, including gas-phase biomolecules and cluster chemistry. He has contributed to understanding CO oxidation mechanisms, catalytic reactions, and cluster-based materials. Notable awards include the Clara Immerwahr Award and Einstein Fellow recognition. His work integrates experimental innovations with computational methods, advancing knowledge in heterogeneous catalysis and materials science.
