Gerard Mawhinney

Gerard Mawhinney is a DPhil student and Consultant Nurse in the Department of Spinal Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is affiliated with Pembroke College and the Oxford Simulation, Teaching and Research Centre, as well as the Emerging Technologies for Analysis of the Brain (ETA) Research Group.

His research focuses on

• Tissue donation experiences in craniospinal tumour patients
• Digital consent tools for neuroscience research
• Spinal oncology and patient decision-making
• Perioperative care and shared decision-making in surgery

Gerard's publications span surgical anatomy, spinal tumour care, and digital health innovations. He collaborates with supervisors including Associate Professor Helen Higham and Associate Professor Olaf Ansorge.
