Gerard Cummins

Gerard Cummins is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham. He leads the Medical Microsystems Lab and is a core member of the Healthcare Technologies Institute (HTI), an interdisciplinary network advancing healthcare technologies through collaboration across chemical engineering, biomedical science, computer science, applied mathematics, chemistry, and physics. His research focuses on applying microengineering techniques to develop smart miniaturized diagnostic and therapeutic implants, ingestible, and wearable devices for healthcare applications.

He holds professional recognitions including Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE) and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His work emphasizes translating discoveries into practical health solutions through cross-disciplinary teamwork.
