Dr. Gerald Mallon is the Julia Lathrop Professor of Child Welfare at Hunter College's Silberman School of Social Work. His pioneering research focuses on LGBTQ+ youth in child welfare systems and innovative approaches to foster care, earning national recognition including the U.S. Adoption Excellence Award.
With over 100 publications, Dr. Mallon examines trauma-informed practices, cultural humility in child welfare, and kinship care models. His work has transformed agency policies regarding LGBTQ+ foster parenting and transitional support for youth aging out of care.
He developed specialized practice guides for working with transgender youth and established international research collaborations examining child protection systems. Dr. Mallon holds a DSW from CUNY Graduate Center and maintains clinical licensure.
