Gerald M. Wilson is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He also serves as the Interim Chair of his department and leads the Target Validation and Screening (TVS) Section at the Center for Biomolecular Therapeutics.
- B.Sc. (Honours), Biochemistry, Queen's University (1991)
- Ph.D., Biochemistry, Queen's University (1997)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, Wake Forest University School of Medicine (1997-1999)
- Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (1999-2000)
Wilson's research focuses on post-transcriptional gene regulation mechanisms, including mRNA turnover, RNA-binding proteins, and their roles in tumor progression, inflammation, and lipoprotein receptor expression. His work bridges molecular biology and translational research through high-throughput drug screening platforms.
His publications highlight expertise in AU-rich element interactions, RNA-protein complexes, and stress response pathways. Collaborative studies emphasize applications in oncology and therapeutic development.
Current projects involve developing biochemical assays for novel therapeutics, supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, American Cancer Society, and American Heart Association.
