Gerald Gwinner

Gerald Gwinner is a Professor and Associate Head (Graduate) in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manitoba. His research focuses on testing fundamental symmetries of nature through subatomic and atomic physics experiments. He leads projects at the TRIUMF laboratory, including the TITAN ion trap facility, which explores precision measurements of short-lived isotopes for studies in astrophysics and electroweak interactions. Key projects include atomic parity non-conservation in francium, relativistic time dilation tests using Li+ ions in storage rings, and mass measurements of exotic nuclei.

His work combines advanced laser cooling, ion trapping, and spectroscopic techniques. Collaborations include the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (Germany), TRIUMF (Canada), and international teams such as the FrPNC Collaboration. His research has advanced understanding of weak interaction effects, nuclear charge radii, and relativistic effects in quantum systems.
