Georgios Yannopoulos is a Professor of Legal Informatics at the School of Law, University of Athens. He holds a PhD from the University of London (1996) and has conducted post-doctoral research at the same institution (1996-1998). He joined the University of Athens in 2004 as a Lecturer, advancing to Assistant Professor (2013) and Associate Professor (2018) before becoming a full Professor. He directs the Laboratory of Law and Informatics since 2015, focusing on the intersection of law with information technology.
His research spans Internet Law, Legal Information Systems, AI applications in law, data protection, cybersecurity, and intellectual property. He is a practicing lawyer at the Athens Bar Association, with experience as in-house counsel for a telecommunications firm and a major Greek bank. Currently, he serves as a Data Protection Officer (DPO) for several organizations and advises on legal-tech matters.
Prof. Yannopoulos is a member of the South EU Google Data Governance Chair, Hellenic Gaming Commission, and multiple legislative committees. His publications include monographs and peer-reviewed articles on topics like electronic legal databases, liability of internet intermediaries, and digital privacy regulation.
