Georgios Liakopoulos is an Associate Professor of Plant Stress Physiology at the Faculty of Crop Science, Agricultural University of Athens (AUA). He is affiliated with the Plant Physiology and Morphology Laboratory located in the Hassiotis building. His research focuses on photosynthesis under stress conditions, photoprotection mechanisms, carbon-calcium inclusions, and plant responses to abiotic stresses such as water deprivation and salinity. He teaches courses including Plant Stress Physiology, Functional Plant Anatomy, and Applied Plant Physiology.
His work integrates plant morphological adaptations with physiological performance, particularly in Mediterranean species. Recent studies explore green roof ecosystems, vertical farming, and light utilization efficiency. Notable publications include investigations into calcium oxalate crystals' roles in photosynthesis and the optimization of hydroponic systems under artificial lighting.
Dr. Liakopoulos engages in interdisciplinary projects, such as socio-ecological dynamics of Lake Volvi and historical landscape evolution. His applied research addresses urban agriculture challenges and sustainable crop management, with a focus on enhancing water use efficiency and CO2 sequestration in plant systems.
