Georgina Rojas García

Georgina Rojas García is a Research Professor at the Center for Research and Higher Education in Social Anthropology (CIESAS) in Mexico City, holding this position since 2003. She currently serves as Regional Director of the CIESAS Mexico City Unit (September 2022–present) and previously coordinated the Postgraduate Program (Master's and Doctorate) from 2015 to 2017.

She earned her PhD in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin, USA. Her academic journey includes visiting scholarships at the University of California, Riverside (2008–2009), and UCLA/University of Minnesota (2017–2018).

Dr. Rojas García's research centers on Mexico's labor market dynamics, with emphasis on industrial restructuring, job insecurity, and heterogeneous employment structures. She pioneered studies on domestic work and political organization of women workers within informal labor contexts. Current projects analyze domestic worker organization in modern Mexico, COVID-19 impacts on older adults, and binational street vendor comparisons between Mexico and the United States.

She has published extensively in national and international journals and contributed to collective books as author and coordinator. As Academic Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program, she shaped graduate curricula and mentored emerging researchers in social anthropology and labor studies.
