About
Georgia Nester is a Research Fellow at the UWA Oceans Institute (OceanOmics Centre) and a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Minderoo Foundation since July 2023. She holds a PhD in Molecular and Life Sciences from Curtin University (2019–2023), focusing on monitoring blue biodiversity using environmental DNA (eDNA). Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to biodiversity conservation and sustainable ecosystems.
Education:
- PhD, Molecular and Life Sciences: 'Monitoring blue biodiversity: examining diversity patterns in coastal and marine environments using environmental DNA' (Curtin University, 2019–2023).
Research Interests:
Georgia’s research focuses on leveraging eDNA and genomic tools to study marine biodiversity, endangered species conservation, and CRISPR-driven applications in environmental monitoring. Her work addresses challenges in genome assembly, taxonomic classification, and innovative sampling techniques like paint roller-based eDNA collection. She collaborates globally to advance methodologies for biodiversity assessment and conservation.
