About
Dr. George Zhou is an Associate Professor in Astrophysics at the University of Southern Queensland. He investigates planetary system formation and evolution through exoplanet discovery and characterization.
His research focuses on young planetary systems using data from facilities including TESS, CHEOPS, and HST. Key projects examine planet demographics in early evolutionary stages, atmospheric escape processes, and orbital obliquity measurements.
He has been awarded prestigious fellowships including ARC Future Fellowship (2024), ARC DECRA Fellowship (2021), and NASA Hubble Fellowship (2017). Dr. Zhou secured observing programs with HST, JWST, and VLT to study atmospheric erosion in adolescent planetary systems.
He supervises graduate students researching young planet populations, atmospheric escape detection, and planetary dynamics. His group discovered several young planetary systems including mini-Neptunes in the Taurus-Orion moving group.
