About
Dr George Wise serves as a Research Associate at the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre within the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge, a role held since 2023.
His academic foundation at Cambridge includes:
- PhD in Materials Science & Metallurgy (2018-2023)
- MSci in Materials Science & Metallurgy (2017-2018)
- MA in Materials Science & Metallurgy (2014-2017)
His research centers on high-temperature aerospace materials, specializing in nickel-based superalloys and microstructure evolution. Expertise spans alloy development, oxidation mechanisms, and advanced characterization via dilatometry, thermal analysis, mechanical testing, XRD, and TEM. This work directly supports jet engine innovation through Rolls-Royce UTC partnerships.
Dr Wise collaborates with Dr Nicole Church, Professor Howard Stone, and Professor Nicholas Jones while contributing to departmental teaching and supervisions. The Rolls-Royce UTC provides state-of-the-art facilities including metallurgical preparation labs, cyclic oxidation rigs, electro-thermal mechanical testing systems, and advanced calorimetry equipment essential for extreme-environment materials research.
