George Wame Matthews

George Wame Matthews serves as Senior Professor of Practice and Scene Shop Supervisor at Kansas State University's School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, with office location in 216 McCain Auditorium.

Education:

• B.A. in History from Trinity University

Matthews brings extensive professional expertise in theatre production developed through four years as an Off-Broadway stagehand and carpenter in New York City. His hands-on experience spans scenic design, technical theatre execution, and stage management for major productions including Evil Dead: the Musical (US premiere) and August Wilson's King Hedley II at Signature Theatre Company.

His background includes premiering four Neil LaBute works with Manhattan Class Company and summer engagements at New York Stage and Film (Poughkeepsie) and Summer Theatre of New Canaan (Connecticut), establishing him as a practitioner-scholar bridging academic instruction with professional theatre standards.
