Dr. George Shields (1951–2020) was a distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Kentucky State University, where he served as Chair of the Division of Literature, Languages, and Philosophy for 15 years. He earned his BA (1973) and MA (1975) in Philosophy from the University of Louisville and his PhD from the University of Chicago. His academic leadership included a 30-year teaching career and election as President of the Southeast Division of the American Academy of Religion (2007).
