Dr. George Roberts is a Lecturer in Modern History at the University of Sheffield's School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities. His research focuses on twentieth-century Eastern Africa, particularly Tanzania and Comoros, with emphasis on decolonization, African socialism, Cold War dynamics, and the political economy of media. Research interests span African revolutionary movements, global Cold War interactions, media materiality, and commodity crises. His work bridges local African experiences with transnational networks, particularly through analyses of newsprint scarcity and diasporic communities.
Recent publications explore Swahili tabloid politics in socialist Tanzania and Comorian decolonization. Roberts has held fellowships at the European University Institute (Max Weber Programme) and Cambridge (Junior Research Fellowship).
