George R. Hendrey

George R. Hendrey is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY). He holds an MS in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) and a PhD in Aquatic Ecology from the University of Washington (1973). His work bridges engineering and environmental science, focusing on climate change impacts on ecosystems, particularly atmospheric CO2 effects and ecosystem perturbations caused by human activity.

Previously, he led the Earth Systems Sciences Division at Brookhaven National Laboratory, pioneering the Free-Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) technology. This innovation has enabled global studies on ecological responses to rising CO2 levels. His research emphasizes climate feedback mechanisms, forest resilience to drought, and carbon sequestration dynamics.
