Dr. George Oberle serves as History Librarian and Associate Professor at George Mason University's Department of History and Art History. He founded and directs the Center for Mason Legacies, researching early American knowledge institutions and the legacies of slavery.
His research explores information dissemination in the early American Republic and political constructions of knowledge through archival institutions. Current projects examine George Mason's role as an enslaver and settler colonialism impacts in Northern Virginia. He teaches courses on archival methods, American South history, and intellectual history while serving on doctoral committees.
Oberle actively collaborates with historical societies including the Virginia Forum and Historical Society of Fairfax County, and maintains memberships in the Society of Historians of the Early American Republic and American Historical Association.
