George J. Pappas is UPS Foundation Professor in Electrical and Systems Engineering at University of Pennsylvania, with secondary appointments in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. He serves as Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and Director of the Raj and Neera Singh Program in Artificial Intelligence.
His research develops control systems, robotics, and machine learning methods for safe, secure cyber-physical systems, with applications in autonomous vehicles and networked systems. He has published over 300 peer-reviewed articles and received numerous honors including the IEEE George S. Axelby Award and American Automatic Control Council's O. Hugo Schuck Award.
Awards include NSF PECASE, Antonio Ruberti Young Researcher Prize, and election to National Academy of Engineering (2024). He has mentored 50+ trainees now in academic positions globally.
