George Fisher is the Judge John Crown Professor of Law at Stanford Law School and co-director of the Criminal Prosecution Clinic. He holds affiliations with the Stanford Center for Law and History and the Stanford Criminal Justice Center.
Education: AB from Harvard University (1982), JD from Harvard Law School (1986).
Research focuses on criminal law history, including jury systems, plea bargaining, and legal institutions. His work combines archival research with contemporary legal analysis. Recent publications include a landmark book on plea bargaining history and a Yale Law Journal article on jury practices.
Awarded the John Bingham Hurlbut Award for Excellence in Teaching (1999, 2003). Advises students in the Criminal Prosecution Clinic collaborating with Santa Clara County DA’s office. Active in policy debates on drug law, prosecutorial ethics, and criminal justice reform.
