About
Dr. George Dragoi is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience at Yale School of Medicine, with affiliations to the Wu-Tsai Institute and the Dragoi Lab. He investigates the interplay between externally driven and internally generated neural representations to understand memory formation and spatial navigation.
- MD: Grigore Popa University of Medicine, Romania (1994)
- PhD: Behavioral and Neural Science, Rutgers University (2002)
- Postdoctoral Studies: Picower Institute, MIT
His research focuses on hippocampal-neocortical networks, preconfigured neuronal assemblies, and generative grammars in the brain. He employs large-scale electrophysiology, optogenetics, and computational analysis to study memory mechanisms across development and adulthood, with implications for schizophrenia, autism, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Recent publications highlight his work on Euclidean geometry’s role in hippocampal development (2024), memory reactivation during sleep (2024), and predictive coding in hippocampal circuits (2021). Collaborators include Usman Farooq, John Krystal, and Susumu Tonegawa.
