About
Dr. George Devitt is a Research Fellow in the Department of Biological Sciences and Chemistry at the University of Southampton. His research focuses on developing spectroscopic techniques for neurodegenerative disease diagnosis, particularly tauopathies and dementia. He investigates protein aggregation mechanisms and their diagnostic applications, aiming to create protein-specific therapies. His interdisciplinary work spans Raman spectroscopy, mid-infrared optics, and biomarker discovery. He collaborates widely, including with the Neuroscience Interdisciplinary Dementia and Ageing Centre. Contact: G.T.Devitt@soton.ac.uk | ORCID | LinkedIn | Twitter.
- Research Groups: Neuroscience Interdisciplinary Dementia and Ageing Centre
- Key Techniques: Raman spectroscopy, mid-infrared absorption spectroscopy
- Focus Areas: Tau protein aggregation, Alzheimer's disease, SARS-CoV-2 inactivation mechanisms
His research bridges chemistry and biology, applying optical technologies to understand protein misfolding in diseases. Recent projects include peptide-based inhibitors for tauopathies and UVC laser applications against viruses. He has published in Alzheimer's & Dementia, ACS Photonics, and RSC Advances.
