George Christian is a Researcher and Deputy-Director at the Research Institute on Catalysis and the Environment at Lyon (IRCELYON) at the University of Lyon 1, France. His roles include leadership in environmental and atmospheric chemistry research. He holds a Habilitation Thesis (HDR) in Physical Chemistry (1999) and a PhD in Physical Chemistry (1993), both from the University Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg.
His research focuses on aerosol chemistry, tropospheric multiphase processes, air quality, and photochemical interfaces. He has led major projects such as the ERC-funded “Air-Sea Exchanges driven by Light” and contributed to environmental policy through roles like Regional Vice Coordinator of the ARC3 environmental network (2011–2015). Awards include the PIFIs International Distinguished Scientist Award (2018) and the EUREKA-Lillehammer Prize (2004).
He has held institutional roles including Board Member of PULSALYS Technology Transfer Company (2013–present) and Vice President of the University of Lyon 1 (2011–2012). He is actively involved in international organizations, serving on the Steering Committee of the International Global Atmospheric Chemistry (IGAC) and as Vice President of the International Commission on Atmospheric Chemistry and Global Pollution (iCACGP).
