About
Dr. George Boss is a Research Fellow in the Department of Political Science at University College London (UCL), funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Postdoctoral Fellowship programme. He holds a PhD from the University of Bristol, an MRes in Politics from Birkbeck College, London, and a Master of Arts in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) from the University of Oxford.
His research focuses on redefining the concept of 'need' within political theory, challenging its traditional separation from political processes. By integrating Marxian analysis with Judith Butler's performative theory, Boss argues that needs are socially constructed through political practices rather than fixed biological or cultural standards. His work addresses contemporary issues including poverty, climate change, and labor dynamics.
Key publications include analyses of climate justice decision-making and critiques of abstract human needs theories. He is currently preparing a book manuscript based on his doctoral research. Awards include Bristol's Hilary Hartley Prize and the Political Studies Association's Sir Ernest Barker Prize for exceptional contributions to political theory.
