Dr. George Athanassakos is a Professor of Finance and the Ben Graham Chair in Value Investing at the Ivey Business School, University of Western Ontario. He joined Ivey in 2004 and founded the Ben Graham Centre for Value Investing (2006) and the Center for the Advancement of Value Investing Education (2008). Previously, he held academic roles at York University and Wilfrid Laurier University, where he also founded the Financial Planning Program. He holds degrees from York University (PhD, MBA, MA in Economics) and the School of Industrial Studies, Thessalonica, Greece (BA in Economics and Business Administration).
His research focuses on value investing, capital market anomalies, and institutional trading. He has been ranked among Canada’s top researchers in finance and is a recipient of teaching awards. Dr. Athanassakos has authored books on derivatives, equity valuation, and value investing, and contributes to outlets like The Globe and Mail and MoneySense. He serves on editorial boards of journals like the Journal of Business and Financial Affairs and holds leadership roles in organizations such as the Multinational Finance Society.
Awards include the FP Canada™ Fellow distinction and recognition as a Fellow of the Quality Shareholder Initiative. His work has influenced global value investing practices, and Woxsen University established a chair in his name. He actively engages in conferences, symposiums, and editorial roles to advance financial education and research.
