Georg Gulyas

Georg Gulyas is a Professor of Guitar at Ingesund School of Music, Karlstad University, since 2012. He also conducts artistic research at Luleå University of Technology since 2020, focusing on interpreting music through literary texts and pedagogical methodologies. His teaching spans solo guitar performance, chamber music, and instrumental methodology. Alongside academia, he maintains a freelance musical career with notable collaborations, including performances with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and S:t Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra.

Education: Basic qualification from Malmö Academy of Music, followed by advanced studies at Royal College of Music (Stockholm), École Normale de Musique de Paris, and Juilliard School (New York).

Research interests emphasize developing tools for deeper reflection on musical interpretation, integrating literary concepts to enhance pedagogy in higher music education. His work contributes to expanding interpretive frameworks in Western art music.

Notable achievements include a Grammy-equivalent 'Grammis' in Hong Kong and recognition as 'Artist of the Month' by Naxos (2021). His discography features works by composers like Bach, Villa-Lobos, Britten, and Ginastera.

Lives in Stockholm with his opera-director wife and two adult children, dedicating time to teaching, research, and performances.
