Geoffrey Rathgeb Aung

Geoffrey Rathgeb Aung is a Lecturer and Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, University of Vienna. His research focuses on political and economic anthropology, examining infrastructure, logistics, and capitalism in Myanmar and Southeast Asia. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and has been supported by the NSF, Wenner-Gren Foundation, and Fulbright Scholarship.

His research interests include finance, temporality, infrastructure projects, displacement, activism, and postcolonial capitalism. Current projects explore Myanmar's deep-sea port projects and the role of images under military rule. His articles analyze topics like logistical capitalism, China-Myanmar economic corridors, and the political life of infrastructure. Recent works critique imperialist frameworks and reimagine anthropological approaches against 21st-century empire.
