Geoffrey Coupland is a Lead Tutor in the Camberwell Illustration BA program at Camberwell College of Arts, part of the University of the Arts London. His work spans illustration, comic art, and effigy making under the pseudonym ZEEL. He has contributed artwork to renowned publications like The Fortean Times, The Guardian, and Spirou, alongside collaborations with Sony. As an educator, he has taught at multiple institutions including Kingston, Wimbledon, Banbury, Lewisham, and Hastings Colleges.
His research focuses on folksong, folklore, children’s comics, toys, and mythic processing, with particular engagement with the works of David Jones. Coupland holds degrees from the University of Westminster and the Royal College of Art (RCA). Beyond teaching, he maintains an active creative practice and affiliation with the Comics Research Hub at UAL.
