Geoffrey Anderson, M.D., is a trauma surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and holds multiple academic roles at Harvard University. As Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School, he serves as Associate Program Director for the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change, faculty at the Center for Surgery and Public Health, and director of the TIGER (Trauma, Implementation science, Global surgery, and Equity Research) Lab. He is also a Major in the United States Air Force Reserves, leading a Critical Care Air Transport Team. His international work includes part-time visiting faculty roles at the University of Global Health Equity in Rwanda.
Dr. Anderson’s training includes residencies at Massachusetts General Hospital and Los Angeles County Hospital. His research focuses on global surgery equity, trauma care disparities, surgical education in resource-limited settings, and implementation science. Notable contributions include developing low-cost surgical simulation tools (GlobalSurgBox) and evaluating trauma care in conflict zones like Ukraine. He has pioneered curriculum design for surgical training in Rwanda and investigates social determinants of health outcomes, such as food insecurity and financial toxicity in surgical patients.
His TIGER Lab explores long-term functional recovery after trauma, geriatric trauma frailty, and the intersection of firearm violence with historic redlining. Dr. Anderson’s work emphasizes translating research into scalable healthcare solutions, particularly in low-resource environments.
