About
Dr. Geoff Coombs is a Lecturer in Sport & Exercise Science at Bangor University, affiliated with the Institute for Applied Human Physiology. He joined Bangor in 2024 after postdoctoral fellowships at McMaster University (2022–2024) and Western University, Ontario (2020–2022).
Geoff’s research focuses on cardiovascular and thermoregulatory responses to extreme environments (heat, cold, diving) and cerebrovascular regulation in aging. His work employs integrative physiological techniques (transcranial Doppler ultrasound, MRI, thermometry) to study multi-system coordination under stressors like exercise, heat, pollution, and hypoxia.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in:
- Thermal physiology and climate change impacts
- Cerebral blood flow dynamics
- Human adaptation to high altitude and underwater environments
- Neuro-cardiovascular interactions in health and disease
Geoff welcomes postgraduate and postdoctoral applicants interested in environmental physiology, thermoregulation, or cerebrovascular function.
