Gemma Simons

Dr Gemma Simons is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer and Consultant in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Southampton. Her research focuses on healthcare staff and learner wellbeing, particularly through developing Core Outcome Sets (COS) for measuring wellbeing in doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. She has held leadership roles including Chair positions at the Royal College of Physicians, British Medical Association, and National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment Programme (2019-2022). Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration to address systemic challenges in healthcare workforce wellbeing.

Research interests include healthcare staff wellbeing, outcome measurement frameworks, and COS development. Notable projects involve national surveys exploring mental health nursing workforce dynamics and Delphi studies defining treatment resistance in anxiety disorders.
