Gemma Lucas is a human geographer at the University of Exeter, affiliated with the Wellcome Centre for Cultures and Environments of Health. Her research focuses on shame, embodiment, and creative methodologies, particularly through her Moving Shame workshops. She collaborates internationally, including with Duke University School of Medicine and the Global Classrooms initiative, which explores health humanities across global contexts.

Her interdisciplinary work bridges geography, feminist theory, and the medical humanities. She develops embodied practices like yoga and somatics to explore shame in marginalized communities and medical cultures. Recent collaborations include the Wellcome Trust-funded Shame and Medicine project and teaching initiatives like Global Classrooms: Health Humanities and Geographies.
Teaching & Grants: Co-developed the internationally accredited HASM031 module, integrating virtual reality and embodied learning. Funded projects include investigations into racial discrimination's mental health impacts via art and creative practice.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with Duke University, UNC Chapel Hill, and international institutions through the Global Classrooms network, and co-facilitates workshops with Dr. Chloe Asker and Dr. Will Bynum.
