Geir Torgersen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences (HiOA). He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering from 2017 to 2021. His expertise lies in urban flooding, stormwater management, and sustainable planning. Torgersen holds a PhD from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) titled Sustainable Planning to Reduce Urban Flooding – an Interdisciplinary Approach (2017), a postgraduate teacher training from Østfold University College (2009), and a Civil Engineer degree from NTNU (1994).
His research focuses on mitigating urban flooding through interdisciplinary methods, with projects such as Green Sponge Buildings in Scandinavia. He is affiliated with the Building and Environment Research Group and the Green Energy initiative. Torgersen teaches courses in Water and Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, and coordinates the Civil Engineering program.
